It took a few months, but I’ve finally made the jump to instagram. I realize it’s been a while coming: after all, Instagram is a popular medium to post reviews, in large part because it offers ways for bite-sized explainers and, importantly, reels! See here the new Instagram @pointstoseats account:

What should you expect from @pointstoseats?
The reason it took me a little while to make this jump was because I was searching for a good way to utilize this medium. The truth is I don’t really like making movies. They take a lot of time and I always feel awkward talking to my phone. There’s also the privacy element of course. But, recently I saw another account do something that I thought was a pretty good idea, and so that triggered my launch of this new Instagram account. So, here’s the two primary things you can expect:
Reels: something that you’ve been asking me for!
One thing I’d heard you ask for were movies. Now, I’m still not going to make entire Youtube video reviews, but I think I may have a happy medium. I will post onto my Instagram account with reels of up to 1 minute, that will showcase aspects of an airline’s product offerings. For example, see below for a video I made in JAL’s A350 business class:
I believe this is a nice (and easy) way to show you an extra ‘dimension’ of content, that may help in conveying some of the details that are otherwise more difficult to showcase with still images.
Shorts: concise explainers that summarize blog posts and other, additional content
This is something I saw another account do that I thought wads actually quite a good idea: short posts that use a series of pictures that make a small ‘guide’ or ‘explainer’. My first stab at this is the below, based on my much longer post on flying Singapore Airlines premium economy for a fairly cheap fair to select South Asian destinations:
In this format, I can convey in very short form the essential information of the post, and then with a link refer you to the full post, for those interested. What I hope to accomplish is to spark interest in the content, but also provide key knowledge quickly. I hope you enjoy this short form content!
Additional instagram-only content
Finally, I will likely have content that is above and beyond what I post about on the blog itself (this website). The truth is that sometimes there’s stuff that I come across that is good to know, but may not be quite ‘enough’ for a full blog post. Or, perhaps I just don’t have time to report on it quickly with a full post, and a shorter Instagram post would be more tenable. So, follow the Instagram account @pointstoseats if you wish to discover what other content I might be covering…
Every post will also be ‘announced’ with a story
I also intend to ‘accounce’ new posts with a story, to ensure you’re kept updated by various means. The story also includes a way fro me to provide a full link to the actual blog post, so if that’s what the story is about, it. may eb the easiest way for you to get to the website. So, keep an eye out!
Follow @pointstoseats on Instagram!
Convinced yet? Go on and head over to instagram and follow @pointstoseats to stay up-to-date with all the new content, both that which is on here, but also additional posts, reels and stories that I’m planning to put up.
